Where a share of it goes

Aina Trust

Aina means mirror. Since 1997 it has reflected what the poorer parts of Bangalore need, and worked on it.

Aina Trust is a voluntary organisation working for the welfare and rights of children and women from marginalised communities in rural and semi-urban Karnataka, alongside the government's women and child welfare and health departments. A share of every box ordered from this collection goes to that work, and the amount appears on your invoice.

The work

What Aina Trust runs

Three programmes, running alongside each other rather than in sequence.

  • Early Child Care

Community women are trained to care for children up to three years old while their mothers work in informal jobs — the age at which childcare is hardest to find and matters most.

  • Alternate care and continuing education

Children of single mothers, and orphaned children, are supported to stay with their families and kin rather than in institutions, with the help they need to stay in school.

  • Capacity building

Training for parents, caregivers and educators on child development and child rights, run with government and other organisations rather than in isolation.
